People's Bicentennial Commission Seeks Permit For April 19 Rally.

All Night Festivities Planned To Start Holiday At 2 a.m.

The People's Bicentennial Commission has apparently discarded earlier plans and is now seeking a permit for a giant rally for thousands at Buttrick Hillside with the main activities starting at about 2 a.m., the morning of April 19, Supt. David L. Moffitt of Minute Man National History Park confirmed this week. No permits have yet been issued, he said. While the People's group has not officially withdrawn two earlier applications, the new request now under consideration is believed to be intended to take the place of the first two already being processed by the National Park Service last week: a joint one for an ecumenical service from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. at Buttrick Hillside and the Fiske Hill Visitor Center in Lexington; the other, for a program, mostly of oratory, at the Old North Bridge.
