Jesse H. Gilman was born on August 3, 1880 in Lowell, Massachusetts to Warren Gilman and Sophia N. Hatch, both of Vermont. By 1900, Mr. Gilman's mother had died. He lived with his father, his brother, George, and an elderly lodger, Martha Smith, in a rented home on Hurd Street in Lowell, Massachusetts. He worked as a day laborer in Lowell.
Mr. Gilman entered the Massachusetts State Prison in December 1931. He died there on May 17, 1936, at 55.
